Winamp has already participated in the NFT market
At the beginning of 2022, Winamp launched its NFT collection in conjunction with the Winamp Foundation. The initiative was to propose an auction in which the original 1997 “skin” of the famous media player was sold as NFT.
The auction was conducted through the secondary market OpenSea from May 16 to May 22. The objective was to raise funds for charitable projects that support emerging musicians, such as MusicFund.
MusicFund is an NGO that collects broken musical instruments, repairs or restores them to donate them to music schools in conflict zones or developing countries.
In addition to the first skin in 1997, the Winamp Foundation invited several artists who painted various mythical Winamp skins over time and selected 20 paintings to be sold in a NFT collection.
