South Korean city to build its replica in the metaverse

The rise of NFTs and various metaverses continues to grow, and in this case it is making an impact in a South Korean city, with a plan to recreate the city in the metaverse and generate citizenships as non-fungible tokens.

Seongnam, a city located in South Korea, will be one of the pioneers in carrying out activities that will bring the population into the metaverse. They recently announced that they are working on a plan to digitally recreate the city of Seongnam in the metaverse, through which they will provide citizens with access to information and certain state services, through identification as citizens by means of a non-fungible token (NFT).

The project would be called “Mevarese Special City Seongnam”, which seeks to recreate the city in the metaverse, and is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2023. This model would follow the steps previously taken by the capital of South Korea, Seoul. In principle, work will begin in the municipality of Metaverse, and construction will begin in October.

Day by day the projects in South Korea related to the advances that are being generated thanks to blockchain technology are growing, so they bring a plan focused on turning the country into a worldwide center focused on web 3.0 and the metaverse.

In early September, the South Korean government announced that it will introduce a “Metaverse Industry Promotion Act” as part of its political and economic plans to encourage and generate greater adoption of the industry.

One of the most important features of the project is that within the metaverse citizens will be able to access information and services thanks to NFT citizenship. For the time being, no further information was provided, but it is expected that more information related to this figure will be known very soon.

BACKGROUND IN SOUTH KOREA AND THE NFTCS

  • SEOUL AND ITS METAVERSE

Weeks ago, the capital of South Korea, Seoul, announced the launch of the first part of its replicated city in the metaverse. Although their plan is quite extensive, they are going to start with works related to the virtual reconstruction of Seoul City Hall and Seoul Square.

  • MBC KOREAN TV AND THE SANDBOX

It was recently announced that The Sandbox metaverse has welcomed Korean TV station MBC to its virtual realms, which will carry out the development of its production studio, among other TV network spaces, in its own metaverse.

MBC is one of the largest and most important broadcasters in South Korea. MBC also plans to offer NFT to its audience.

The director of MBC’s Future Policy Office stated that the metaverse is a priority for broadcasting. We should not lose focus on the role of the person who has expressed this position on the importance of the metaverse.

The company’s goal is to serve its users and viewers around the world through its production studio and offices in the metaverse.

The company would develop its work in the K-Verse land, dedicated to the creation of K content in the metaverse. The acronym K stands for content of Korean origin.
