President of Activision Blizzard steps down to lead NFT company

Daniel Alegre, the current president and COO of Activision Blizzard Company, announced that he will leave his position on March 31, 2023, to join a large company dedicated to blockchain gaming and NFTs.

Daniel Alegre joined Activision Blizzard in 2020 in the respective positions of president and COO. After serving in his positions for a few years, the Mexican has made a decision regarding his future career, and will leave the famous video game company.

Daniel’s contract will expire in March 2023, and upon expiration of that date, he will leave the company in order to seek new experiences and opportunities.

Daniel has more than 25 years of experience in the industry. In his current positions at Activision Blizzard, he has overseen the marketing of franchises such as Diablo, Candy Crush, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, among many others.

Prior to his time at Activision Blizzard, Daniel Alegre held several executive positions at Google for 16 years, including president of global and strategic partnerships.

In this way, he would join Yuga Labs and replace Nicole Muniz, who will become a partner and advisor of the company. From the Yuga Labs company they stated that regarding the metaverse, there are many greats in the field, so they needed the incorporation of a person with a great track record in the development of the highest possible level.

Yuga Labs is the company responsible for one of the most important blue chip collections in the NFT world: Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC); as well as other major projects related to blockchain, web3 and digital collectibles.

The company states that their search led them to Daniel Alegre, who will be the new CEO as of March 2023. They define him as a visionary professional, with a great track record and experience, in addition to sharing a passion for innovation and creativity.

Daniel Alegre officially communicated the news through his Twitter account, expressing that Yuga Labs, the developer of projects such as @boredapeyc, @othersidemeta, @cryptopunksnfts, among others, is a creative powerhouse that drives innovation, and storytelling in the Web3 field.

This event takes place in a context where the company Yuga plans to launch a metaverse called“Otherside“. One of its purposes is to compete with industry giants such as Meta and Microsoft for the development of the Metaverse: a virtual space where people can interact and relate to each other.

Greg Solano and Wylie Aronow, co-founders of the company Yuga Labs, said that in the metaverse they are competing with the big players in the field. That is why to exploit projects like“Otherside” they need a professional with sufficient experience to take it to the highest level.

There is an expectation from many people in the ecosystem that Daniel will succeed in bringing ownership of digital assets to users and true decentralization in the field of video games.
