The Japanese vehicle manufacturer, which is positioned as one of the largest producers in the world, has announced the launch of its own NFT collection.
The automaker’s announcement comprises the release of non-fungible tokens of its iconic brand cars, which will be included in a web3 video game called Torque Drift 2.
Torque Drift 2 is a video game developed on blockchain, which will run precisely on the Polygon network, linked to the Ethereum blockchain. Its essence is carried out from the streets of Tokyo, to professional racing circuits, with the sponsorships of recognized brands worldwide. Torque Drift 2 seeks to provide a unique and different experience to what we are accustomed to traditional games.
This game is a subsidiary product of a video game studio based in Australia, which goes by the name of Grease Monkey Games, dedicated to games related to motorsports. This studio in turn is a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, which also focuses on motorsports. They are responsible for the development of popular games such as Torque Burnout and Torque Drift.
This collection, which is carried out jointly by Grease Monkey Games and Nissan, consists of a maximum of 15 exclusive models of the Japanese brand, with several variables that will be available in the Torque Drift 2 game.
Nissan’s first NFTs will be 5 variants of the 180SX model, and 7 variants of the 370Z, both versions being an icon of the Japanese brand.
From what has been disclosed, the NFTs are expected to be launched within the next 12 months, and the said project mentions that they will be the first officially licensed Nissan, Infiniti, Nismo, and Datsun NFTs.
Urvit Goelthe head of global game development at Polygon Studios, said that Nissan’s entry into the web3 with the Torque Drift 2 game is one of the most important implementations of Blockchain and NFT technology, as it is a well-known and prestigious brand worldwide.
This alliance will give the video game studio full access to the entire model range of Nissan, Datsun and Infiniti cars, from previous and future years.
In this NFT collection there will be a lot of attention to detail and precision of each of the parts, 3D models, engines, even limited NISMO parts, or options for the finish of the vehicle, colors and many more features.
According to data provided by the project, Grease Monkey Games is working together with Nissan Motor Company, so that the NFT of their cars, as well as their parts, are represented in a real way. The main objective of both companies is to provide the highest possible accuracy in every detail.
Likewise, this is not the first time Nissan enters the NFT field. Previously, in December 2021 Nissan Chile announced the launch of its exclusive NFTs, with the help of the artist Wasafu.
On this occasion, it was a Nissan LEAF campaign (for the launch of this new version), with an artistic mural on San Diego street in downtown Santiago de Chile, with the aim of creating the first 15 official Nissan NFT, based on this work of art.
How could these NFTs be obtained? With the purchase of a Nissan LEAF, which were available from December 15 through February 15, or the promotion had the option to purchase them while supplies last.
Moreover, Nissan is not the first automotive company to enter the NFT world, as other brands have also done so, such as Mercedes and Hyundai, with the launch of 10,000 non-fungible tokens.
The release of the full version of the game is scheduled for 2024. The developers of the videogame state that they will be attentive to the comments made by users through the official Discord channel, as well as other social networks, in order to make the necessary improvements and thus provide the best experience to the public.
