Manchester City launches NFTs collection in honor of International Women’s Day

This new NFT collection from the English team will be launched on March 8 and is the sixth collaborative digital art release from one of the world’s best-known teams. The collection is called “EMPOWERED” and was created by Power Of Women.

Manchester City partnered with Power Of Women for International Women’s Day and together they have created a new NFT collection called “I AM EMPOWERED”, which will be out on March 8, 2023 at 12:00 PM GMT or 7:00 AM EST.

It will be the sixth collection launched by the English team, as the Club continues to build its presence and expand its community of collectors in the non-fungible token ecosystem.

This collaborative digital art drop collaborative, created exclusively by Power Of Women contains five NFTs pieces, which are:

  • I am powerful.

  • I am proud.

  • I am fearless.

  • I am brave.

  • I am resilient.

This collection of beautiful digital artwork aims to celebrate the passion and diversity of women in soccer today, and at the same time, seeks to inspire and empower future generations who want to become professionals in the sport.

The art NFTs are presented under the Man City x PUMA range of kits, and will be unique designs inspired by Mancunian Emmeline Pankhursta British political activist and leader of the suffragette movement. She lived from 1858 to 1928 and helped women win the right to vote in Britain, among other things.

The Manchester City men’s team, on the other hand, will wear a uniform during their warm-up and departure to the Premier League match on Saturday, March 4 against Newcastle United, which will reference this new team collection and Power Of Woman.

In addition, Manchester City Women will play their match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, March 5 in the FA Women’s Super League in a similar uniform, alluding to the I AM EMPOWERED collection at City’s Academy Stadium.

Also, the English team confirmed that proceeds from both matches will go to the Club’s official charity called ‘City in the Community‘, which is in charge of, among other things, a program called City Girls.

City Girls, aims to provide safe spaces for young women to actively participate and become professionals in soccer, but also help them improve their physical and mental well-being and develop leadership skills.

Manchester City’s program has developed partnerships with after-school clubs and community spaces, giving girls in Greater Manchester the chance to play for free with City in the Community.

City Football Group’s director of marketing and fan experience, Nuria Tarré, weighed in and said that after the success of the fifth collection launched in August 2022, this is another incredible opportunity to continue the journey within the NFT and blockchain ecosystem with this sixth digital art collection.

He also added that they are pleased to collaborate with Power Of Women on these pieces, as it shows the Club’s intentions in commemorating International Women’s Day.

Leah Ibrahim Samsartists and founder of Power Of Women, was another of those who spoke out about the partnership with Manchester City and said that as a child, soccer was always a sport played by boys, but in recent years it has been inspiring to see the rise and popularity that women’s soccer has gained.

She added that Manchester City was approached for an exclusive collection for International Women’s Day and she was honored by the opportunity to join forces with one of the best known clubs in the world.

Conclusion

I AM EMPOWEREDis a collection that is clearly inspired by women and makes reference to the suffragette movement born in the city of Manchester. These digital collectibles can serve to continue to inspire and empower the next generation of women who want to be professional athletes or in any other profession.

On the other hand, this collection says what different societies have been trying to say for several years now, as it shows that women are strong, powerful, fearless and resilient enough in a world that struggles every day for equal rights for all.

In addition, the Manchester City made it clear that the NFTs will be 100 percent owned by the holders, regardless of decisions made by any other party, including the developer of the NFTs, in this case Power Of Women. In other words, owners who get the non-fungible tokens will be free to do whatever they want with the digital assets. They will be able to sell them on a secondary market or exchange them for other items.

Finally, the English club confirmed that NFTs are not regulated instruments in the United Kingdom. Consequently, the value of NFTs may go down as well as up and capital gains tax may be payable on the sale of NFTs.
