Adidas announces its first collection of NFT Weareables

The company Adidas has unveiled its first official digital apparel collection, which consists of different garments inspired by the brand’s signature designs.

The year 2021 saw the beginning of the big boom regarding the incorporation of new players in the metaverse, and since then Adidas has not been a stranger to this trend.

Some of its initial activities in this field, the German company formalized different alliances with projects such as Bored Ape Yatch Club (BAYC), Punks Comics, among others. It also launched an NFT collection in collaboration with these projects.

Today, it has become almost a globalized standard for forward-thinking brands or companies to develop their own NFT digital collections.

On this occasion, Adidas decides to take new steps in the Web 3.0 field with the presentation of its first official collection of NFT Wearables under its Adidas Originals label. The designs of the collection have been made by Three Stripes Studio, which are inspired by the past and the future of the sports brand.

The company states that this collection is a new interoperable product category, which Adidas has dubbed Virtual Gear. In addition, they claim that this announcement accelerates Adidas Original’s drive to consolidate its Web 3.0 and metaverse strategy, focused on its community and its members.

This collection is composed of 16 exclusive pieces. Adidas Originals claims that this launch is a creative and cultural milestone in the history of the company, which seeks to unite the past and the future, the digital and the physical, as well as communities, creators and diverse cultures.

Erika Wykes-Sneyd, vice president of the company, said that this milestone serves the community, suppliers and collectors of emerging styles and cultures. In this way, benefits are generated for value creators, in addition to supporting the diversity of expression and providing utility in the metaverse.

The VP added that they will continue to research new Web 3.0 compatible utilities, platforms and experiences to bring novel features to the NFTs in their collection. She remarked that they will work with a focus on the value and utility that these tokens can bring to the community.

One of the goals of the collection is that it can be fitted to various virtual avatars, and be accessible through a PFP dressing tool, whereby each item is interoperable with other projects and metaverses.

In this way, it can be seen as a strong point that the Adidas collection can be adapted to different metaverses, so the company’s Virtual Gear is developed to face all kinds of Web 3.0 limitations.

The collection integrates several disruptive designs. Thus, we can see a retro classic C2172 created for the year 2172, or a Neobone jacket inspired by Adidas’ signature rubber sole.

On the other hand, they have developed 3 limited edition collectible wearables, which represent the style of Bored Ape Yatch Club (BAYC), Gmoney and Punks Comics.

A not minor fact is that owners of an NFT from the Adidas Originals Capsule collection will have direct access to the collection. The important feature is that they will have to replace their capsule, which means burning their previous NFT to randomly generate one of the 16 new wearables.

Those who do not own one of these collectibles, which were launched in May, will be able to access the new collection through one of the most popular marketplaces, such as OpenSea.
