Blockchain Games with ZkEVM from Immutable and Polygon

Polygon Labs has secured a tie-up with Immutable for the development of blockchain games using Zero-Knowledge technology.

In recent months we have been able to see the advancement of the NFT gaming field, with several announcements of companies that have decided to start the development of various gaming projects to involve non-fungible tokens in them.

Thus, Polygon Labs and Immutable companies join this trend. In the last hours the news has been released by several sources, after being announced during the annual Game Developers Conference (GDC).

Initially, they made a publication by the team at Polygon Labs through their official site. On the other hand, they also made an official statement from the site of Immutablewhere they titled it as “a game-changing partnership”.

From the Immutable team, they state that their main objective is to achieve the development of a world where millions of players are truly owners of their digital assets, thanks to Web3 games.

Ryan Wyatt, president of Polygon Labs, has stated that this partnership is a huge step in their goal of empowering developers, and making gamers truly own their gaming assets.

As we have reported in successive articles, the level of adoption of Web3 and NFT is growing steadily. But as a consequence, the infrastructure supporting these technologies needs to be increasingly scalable and efficient.

Thus, they have decided to formalize an alliance with Polygon in order to make it easier for developers to build Web3 games. Thus, they have announced a new joint product.

The product is called Immutable zkEVM: it is a blockchain focused especially on gaming, which is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which is powered by Polygon and supported by Immutable. According to official announcements, the said blockchain is already scheduled to be launched on the market in the coming months.

According to official information, Polygon’s zkEVM mainnet zkEVM will be launched in its beta version on March 27. On the other hand, the Immutable X scaling network itself, based on StarkEx zk-rollup technology, will continue to operate with the Immutable zkEVM network.

The zkEVM virtual machine is compatible with EVM and uses zero-knowledge proofs (aka zk-proofs or zk-rollups), to perform the verification and execution of smart contracts.

One of the great benefits of such a blockchain is that it significantly increases transaction speeds and reduces fee costs, all while remaining compatible with EVM and taking advantage of its great security scheme.

Thus, with Immutable zkEVM you will be able to develop Web3 games in a faster, more agile and effective way, with lower risks, both for large companies and independent developers.

Another of its benefits is that it will prioritize the development of a blockchain that is more economical (in terms of transaction fees) and has a high level of scalability.

On the other hand, Immutable zkEVM offers the necessary tools and resources to develop advanced games, with customizable smart contracts, on-chain mechanics, among other benefits.

In this sense, Immutable zkEVM provides a layer 2 solution for those games that are developed in Immutable, hand in hand with Immutable X, which is powered by the company Starkware.

This blockchain will be supported by validator nodes that place a certain amount of $MATIC instaking, the native token of the Poligon network. There are rumors that such blockchain could start operating after the second quarter of 2023.

In this sense, the team maintains that although the network will start with only one validator, it will later migrate to become a blockchain with multiple Polygon validators, where participants will obtain profits for each transaction made.

Currently, a large number of blockchain projects and game publishers are working on the Polygon blockchain, such as Ubisoft, Atari, Animoca, Decentraland, The Sandbox, among others.
